ATLANTA, GA.—A late rally by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish came up short and the Ohio State Buckeyes won their first College Football National Championship since 2014 on Monday night 34-23.

Notre Dame scored on their opening drive which went 75 yards in 18 plays. They didn’t score again until after Ohio State scored 31 unanswered points.

The Irish, though, rallied to cut the deficit to 31-23 on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Riley Leonard to Jaden Greathouse.

The Buckeyes had 231 yards receiving and 214 rushing. Quarterback Will Howard for Ohio State completed 17 of 21 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns.

Leonard threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns for Notre Dame.  He also had a rushing touchdown. Greathouse had 128 yards receiving on two touchdowns.

Six kids from Indiana were on this Ohio State championship team.

Ohio State also became the first team to score a touchdown on each of their first four drives in a championship game.
