The Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Yes, you read that correctly.

In a Blockbuster trade The Mavericks are trading Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick, according to ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania. The Utah Jazz will receive Jalen Hood-Schifrin, the 2025 Clippers 2nd round 2025 Mavericks 2nd round pick.

Mavericks’ general manger Nico Harrison told ESPN “I believe that defense wins championships. I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future.”

The Dallas Mavericks currently have a record of 26-23 and are ranked 9th in the Western Conference.

Dončić, 25, has been a standout in the 2025 NBA season, averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game over 22 appearances. While he is currently out due to a left calf strain, Luka’s all-around performance continues to solidify his status as one of the league’s elite players. Now he will be paired with LeBron James who looks to try to win an NBA title before the end of his career.

His Mavs’ career ends with an avergae of 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game, five All-Star appearances and five consecutive All-NBA First Team selections.

Davis, 32, is excelling in the 2025 NBA season, averaging 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. With a field goal percentage of 52.8%, he remains a dominant force for the Lakers, showcasing his elite scoring and rebounding abilities while ranking among the league’s top performers. He will now pair with guard Kyrie Irving and try to return to the NBA Finals.
