Washington Mystics Rookie Georgia Amoore Out with ACL Injury

The Washington Mystics have received devastating news as rookie guard Georgia Amoore suffered a right ACL injury during practice this week. The team announced the setback on Wednesday, stating that they are still evaluating her options moving forward. Unfortunately, this injury likely delays Amoore’s debut in the WNBA, with the Mystics’ preseason set to begin on May 3 and the regular season opening on May 16 against the Atlanta Dream.
Amoore, the No. 6 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, was highly anticipated to bring her playmaking and scoring talents to Washington. The Australian-born guard already had an impressive resume coming out of college. After four seasons at Virginia Tech, where she solidified her reputation as one of the top guards in the NCAA, she transferred to Kentucky. There, she delivered a standout season, averaging 19.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game in 31 starts. Her 2023–24 season at Virginia Tech was equally remarkable, as she posted averages of 18.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists.
The Mystics had high hopes for Amoore to contribute immediately as part of a fresh, young core. Washington’s draft class included three first-round selections, including Sonia Citron (No. 3) and Kiki Iriafen (No. 4), alongside Amoore. With her ability to create on offense as both a scorer and facilitator, Amoore was expected to play a major role in helping the team bounce back from last season’s 14–26 record, which saw them miss the playoffs.
While this injury is a significant blow for both Amoore and the Mystics, the team remains loaded with young talent. They’ll need to adapt quickly as they gear up to compete in the highly challenging WNBA season ahead.
